TERM PAPER: Special Effects in Animation and Live-Action

My first two term paper scores were 85 and 80; I will not be writing a third term paper.

Introduction:

-introduce what special effects entails and how it is used

-what is it used in

-describe what is created using special effects

-Choice to examine 2 media types for how they used special effects.

And

Pacific rim, inside the cockpits and environment building and environment effects.

Body

1.League of legends the game is set in a world filled with varying creatures and powers. They had recently released a music video with the release of a new character called Jinx

-the creators of this music video chose to approach the effects Stylistic trying to keep the world very graphic and emphasizing that with the explosions and other effects. Most of the world shown through the video is either 3d or a Painting placed behind the movement happening through the shot.

-3D Explosions and Special Effects overlapping the 3D environment and 3D animation.

This gives the video its more graphic feeling and pushes it less towards realism and more towards fantasy.

2. Pacific rim is set in Future earth when monsters begin appearing and start attacking the earth.

• the look of pacific rim had to be futuristic but tied to realism in order to make it feel edgy yet plausible in our world.
• The environment was made with models and painted backgrounds were created and placed in using green screen to isolate where it would show up in the frame in comparison to the actual set. After they weould then add environment effects. In one of the scenes near the beginning of the film a helicopter lands on a hella pad on a military base. Most of the military base was a 3d model as well as the incoming helicopter. The only real objects used were the foreground objects and the platform the actors had to move around on. Which was surrounded by green screen.
• They also used green screen and special effects to make the inside of the cock pit. Internal mechanics for stepping, as well as controls and visuals that seemed to be floating projections in the film were all special effects that were either layered over or inbetween in a scene, or there was a green screen to capture that area.

closing statement, special effects allows for more immersive less costly movie experiences. Using special effects allows for the creation of worlds that would otherwise be impossible

Character Animation

In physics of animation we had to create a character animation for one of our assignments. One of the examples shown used clay to make the animation and I thought that was an awesome idea so i went with it. one mistake i made was that i used play doh. Play doh is not meant to hold a shape for very long. I remember I used to have play dough and it was super difficult to move with my little kid hands. I think they changed the formula or something cause.... ya... play doh is not the way to go. After getting play doh i built a make shift tripod and then proceeded to create the stop motion. at one point due to the squishyness of play doh, i had to stop and give up on parts of my story telling and restart parts of it cause I could never have the form stay the way i wanted it to. Nevertheless, the deed has been done. I hope you enjoy this animation!
